Jan Dupont/Kal Public Safety/PSA 208 Meeting - Reminder

On Tuesday Jan 18th, citizens and business representatives will meet from 7 to 8:00pm at MPD 3D station (1620 V St.). (Held on the 3^rd Tuesdays for Dupont and Kalorama-Sheridan issues and still in the 3D building even though our police work out of 2D.) Our community depends on good communications to and from our police. This is a roundtable meeting where we problem-solve. Bring an issue – no matter how minor. If you can’t make it, please convey your issue to someone who will be attending.

 

Some potential topics:

1.     Sting operation resulting in the arrest of Wayne Bridgeforth and the filing of Community Impact Statements regarding same.

2.     Potential Burglaries potentially involving Darrell Barber. Several people have identified him from photos as the person knocking on their doors. We now have a resident who has seen and photographed him trying to get into rear doors. He’s been convicted of burglary many times on similar charges. MPD is on it.

3.       Change in Commanders. We regret the loss of Commander Mat Klein to a downtown assignment. He is highly regarded by all.  Michael Reese has taken over. His bio/introduction is here.

Public Safety Alert

We’ve had several packages disappear from stoops recently. We have a pretty good ID that the perpetrator is Wayne Bridgeforth. He is known to have been released from prison on similar charges. He also breaks into cars. He will slip into a garage left open monetarily to steal a power tool. He steals mail out of mail boxes as well. Every time he gets arrested we hope he’ll get a long sentence, but it hasn’t happened yet. He’s on probation. The attached and below picture of Wayne Bridgeforth was not provided by the government (which doesn’t like distributing photos of suspect’s in most circumstances).

Tell your delivery people to stop leaving packages on the stoop in the meantime.

If you see this guy walking around as if he has some business on the block, pull out your phone to dial 911. There’s good chance, he’ll nonchalantly steal something momentarily. He’s about 5 foot 7.

MPD 2nd District Awards Banquet

2D MPD CAC Awards Banquet will be held on September 30, 2010 from 6:00 - 10:00 pm at Maggiano's Little Italy, 5333 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, above the Red Line Metro Station for Friendship Heights.  The cash bar is scheduled from 6:00 - 7:00.  Appetizers including Fried Calamari and Bruschetta will be served in the dining room from 7:00 to 7:30. Dinner will be served at 7:45.  The dinner includes a salad course with fresh breads, and four cheese pasta ravioli with tomato sauce.  The main course includes Salmon, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Fresh Asparagus and breads.  Awards will be presented at 8:30 - 9:30 by MC Doreen Gentzler.  We have a guest speaker who will talk just before the award presentations.  Desserts will be served after the awards.  Desserts include wonderful Profiteroles and Apple Costada with vanilla ice cream.  The entire meal is at a cost of $40.  Wine is included in the price of the meal as are soft drinks, tea and coffee.
