1) Dupont Public Safety Meeting/PSA 208 - Tuesday, April 21st at 7pm in the Stead Playground Recreation Center Building located at 1625 P St NW. (Held on the 3rd Tuesdays for Dupont and Kalorama-Sheridan issues. We occasionally move this meeting out of the 3D building to help stimulate interest.) Our community depends on good communications to and from our police. This is a roundtable meeting where we problem-solve. Bring an issue – no matter how minor.

2) Neighbor Watch/Block Captains/NN208 Meeting – issues like the recent rooftop burglaries point out the need for a more active Neighborhood Watch in Dupont. (If MPD could have written to the Block Captains asking them to get the word on out to citizens to look for suspicious people on roofs and on how to secure roof entrances, the more likely they would have caught the guy and more citizens would have been informed and likely to prepare and protect themselves.)
Dupont’s Neighborhood Watch covers many to most of the relevant blocks with Block Captains (administered at the Neighborhood Network 208 Google Group [NN208]) but isn’t very active.
We’re hoping that Block Captains have made up (or will make) an email and/or phone list of people on their block with whom they are sharing issues and from whom they are learning of issues. (Block Captains who live in a big building may only want to work within their building).
Some of the reasons to have a Dupont Public Safety meeting directed specific at revitalizing the Neighborhood Network 208 are to introduce Block Captains to our new MPD leadership and Community Liaison and to motivate/train Block Captains. Most of the Neighborhood Watch should goals be able to be accomplished over the internet. We’ve found that changing the meeting locations around occasionally has help attract new people.
From Officer Fletcher - PSA 208 Residents, we would like to remind everyone that next week, Tuesday, April 21st 2009 at 7pm we are having our monthly PSA 208 Meeting at the Stead Recreation Center located at 1625 P St NW.
In regards to information sharing and partnerships, we strongly encourage our PSA 208 Neighborhood Block Captains to please attend. This would be a great opportunity for Block Captains to meet as a group as well as discuss best-practices. As a reminder, the Neighborhood Block Captains Group is a program managed and coordinated by citizen activists. We appreciate the energy and dedication of these citizens and Block Captains. Also, if you are interested in joining the Block Captains’ contact list or for more specific information, please come and speak with a Block Captain.
As a reminder, we would like to encourage citizens to learn more about Alert DC by visiting the following link; http://textalert.ema.dc.gov.
